All-In-One Skillet Meals

(NewsUSA) - During the week, there is no doubt that time will get away from you. Picking up the kids from practice, running errands and a host of other activities will quickly turn meals from home-cooked to “Let’s eat out.” Luckily, there are great options and values for both the at-home and dining-out meal.

One of the most economic options for dining at home is a skillet meal. Skillet cooking allows for a simple and delicious meal to be cooked in one skillet, cutting down on the number of pots and pans used. It also allows the cook to be creative and tailor each meal to whoever will be a guest at their dinner table. Additionally, skillet meals do not have to wait for dinner; eggs, potatoes, green peppers and ham can be served up on the breakfast table as the perfect start to a busy day.

If you are new to skillet cooking, Cracker Barrel has everything you need, but first here are a few tips that will help you get started.

* Cast iron skillets are

* recommended, due to high heat retention and even cooking. Most cast iron skillets come “unseasoned,” so the first step for a new skillet is to “season” it. To “season” a skillet, the metal pores (inside and out) have to be filled with a grease of choice, which then gets cooked in to provide a smooth, nonstick surface on both the inside and outside of the cookware.
* To clean the skillet, wash with warm, soapy water and dry with paper towels. Do not allow moisture to sit on the skillet, and dry immediately after washing.

If dining out is more your style, Cracker Barrel has released new Fireside Country Skillets. Similar to what you make at home, these dishes offer a full meal in one dish. For breakfast, try the Ham n’ Cheese, Smoked Sausage and Veggie Skillets.
