Modern Commercial Interior Design by ON-A-Architect

For anyone who has been in a metro station or subway for our American friends, chances are you saw no redeeming interior design qualities to speak of. Eduardo Gutierrez and Jordi Fernandez Rio of ON-A-Architect may change your mind if you are ever the Drassanes Metro Station in Barcelona. The swank modern interior was transformed from the typical sterile building originally designed in 1968 and I must say is a vast improvement with artistic colors and lighting that may make a trip to work something to look forward to.

Tegolasolare Terracotta Solar Panels

Design with a conscious is a mantra we here at Furniture Fashion strongly believe in and hence try to cover products that aim to make a difference. The solar panels by Italian company Tegolasolare are nothing short of stunning as they have been designed to resemble terra-cotta tiles. Each panel contains four photovoltaic cells and all the panels are linked together to to create a photovoltaic field. Of course the design element is crucial too as the panels look charmingly rustic.

Modern Residential Architecture for the Entertainer by A-cero Architects

Here is one of the most inviting modern homes I have seen in a while located in Cadiz, Spain and designed by A-cero Architects. You better wipe off your feet before you enter the SotoGrande that sports one of the most all white interior designs around nicely accented with a few splashes of color for depth and dimension. The designers must have intended for the layout to be used for serious entertaining as the SotoGrande sports an ample roof top lounge, large size swimming pool and pool side bar and lounge area, as well as balconies and patios for quite a few guests.

Amazing London Real Estate on Swains Lane in Highgate

This is one sizable piece of real estate in London which features a basement and two floors. The property is located on Swains Lane in Highgate and is offered by "The Modern House". The basement has a home theater perfectly designed since an absence of natural light is most desired in home theater design. The ground floor contains a garage with parking for two cars, a grand entrance hall and two bedrooms with bathrooms. The second floor has a reception room, two terraces, kitchen and dining area and one more bedroom with bathroom.

The ICEHOTEL : A Building with an Expiration Date

Our friends at WebUrbanist featured the really cool, possibly even cold ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden north of the Arctic Circle and I thought FF readers would enjoy it as well. The ICEHOTEL is a culmination of talented artists from around the world who carved 2 ton ice blocks into the 32 rooms and furnishings, and it even includes the Absolut Icebar Jukkasjrvi by Lena Kristrm and Mark Armstrong so its inhabitants can blow off a little steam after a hard day of work. If you want to see this year's version you better hurry as the life span of the ICEHOTEL is a mere 4 months.

Amazing Malibu 7 Home Overlooking the Pacific Ocean

Residential architecture projects can be a challenge due to zoning conditions and building codes as is the case in this project called "Malibu 7". Kanner Architects was able to rise to the challenge despite these requirements and construct this 5,300 square foot amazing home. The house is nestled above Trancas Canyon overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains and Pacific Ocean. The living room features an unobstructed 180 degree view of the ocean and hillsides. The outdoor area leads to a wonderful pool that begs to be swim in.

Nordstrom Townhouse in Stockholm Sweden

The Nordstrom townhouse lies in Stockholm, Sweden overlooking a peaceful harbor. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city this property features modern charm in its architectural design. It was designed by Claesson, Koivisto and Rune. One design element that really grabs the attention is the way that the stairs flow from one floor to another. A second cool facet is the home spa and sauna and how this was created into a sanctuary for the home owners.

QNCC Qatar National Convention Center to Open 2011

It is nice to see that designers creating large building projects like the Qatar National Convention Center QNCC by Yamasaki Architects of Japan are focusing their collective talents on ecologically conscious buildings. The QNCC to open in 2011 will be the first to have the label of a Gold Certification of U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED). Among the state of the art visuals will be all the amenities of a world class convention center within its 177,000 sq meters space. The projects total energy consumption will be supplied in part by 3,600 sq meters of solar panels to help reduce its dependence on fossil based fuels.

Ultra Modern Interiors : A1 Mobilkom Store in Austria by EOOS

EOOS is well versed when it comes to interior design concepts and bringing them to reality. For A1 Mobilkom Austria's leading mobile phone provider the creation was a combination of technology, innovative thinking, and cutting edge aesthetics. When entering the customer passes through a "fog facade" that produces various scenarios of transcendence according to the time of day. Once inside the store, people stroll among LCD tables. Each customer receives a "ghost mobile" crystalline body to represent a mobile phone. By just placing it on various surfaces visitors can make purchases by loading the real and virtual products into the transparent object - and pick up their items at the checkout counter. A "future ramp" where "future cubes" displaying upcoming products as holographs takes customers to a metallic wing from which they approach the monolithic white bar and lounge area.

The Most Amazing Cottage in the World

We have covered a lot of architecture projects and this one, called "Leaf House", may well be the most amazing cottage in the world. The cottage is located on an escarpment overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Sydney, Australia. It belongs as part of a larger private residence. The shape of the project has been fastened from the images of leaves making this very unique indeed. The roof is constructed of copper which has been woven into a pattern much like how a plant in nature would appear. The inside construction is anchored by supports that have been shaped to mirror that of plant stems; growing wild and in all directions. The end result is a panoramic view from the cottage that also contains a unique look from inside as well.

A TreeHouse for Grown Ups by Rockefeller Partner Architects

Sometimes you just need to get away from the rest of the family and the Banyan Tree House from Rockefeller Partner Architects comprised of Rocky Rockefeller, Christopher Kempel, and Brian Pera offers a nice sanctuary and a modern interpretation of a place we used to play as kids. Like most tree houses the Banyan features its share of wood interior and exterior appointments and nice open views and natural lighting with its well placed windows. This cozy setting makes the best of the 170 square foot floor plan and gives a sense of a much larger space thanks to the tall ceilings and smaller scale furniture.

Must See San Francisco Home with Amazing Views

This "must see" San Francisco home was designed by architect Joel Karr of Group 41 Architects. The project is called H House and features a property overlooking the hills of Noe Valley. The shape of the home is not surprising since a tall structure is a must due to the expensive real estate prices in the area. The inside of the home features clean modern design which is great in San Francisco as a person can be more focused on home furnishings and amazing views from the windows.

Unusual Stacked Barn House

The Vitra Campus has a new edition in this unusual stacked barn house. My first overall impression was that several barns were placed on top of one another which created the strange structure. I was a bit surprised by the simplicity of the approach, but perhaps that is its intention to make one think and wonder and in effect, capture a person's attention. Vitra is famous for the Vitra Museum and its collection of modern objects. The intent behind the house was to add more display space for its design collection. I also found the "world's largest hammer" interesting.
